Indian Education Department Mission Statement

By working together with schools, parents and communities, APS Indian Education Department will develop enhanced and supportive Indigenous educational opportunities for all Native American students by increasing knowledge of Native values through teaching language and cultural differences.

 

Indian Education Department Vision Statement

All Native American students will succeed with appropriate support systems, effective teaching, and use of culturally relevant methods and strategies.

 

2009-2010 Indian Education Department Goals and Objectives:

 

1.    Improve Literacy skills ofNative American students in Grades K-12 as measured by pre- and post-Reading Intervention scores by the end of SY 2009-10 through integration of culturally-relevant materials.

Objective:  Gain of 3% each year beginning with the listed baseline data taken from Report for 2006-07 Indian Education Act September 2008

2.    Improve communication with the greater community and parents of Native American students who attend APS

Objective:  Increase by 3% as compared to 2008-2009.

3.    Increase school attendance and graduation rate of Native American students.

Objective:  Gain 3% in attendance for all Natives students and increase number of graduates from 245 in may 2009.

4.    Improve and increase partnerships with neighboring Tribes and communities.

Objective:  Gain of 3% as compared to 2008-2009.

5.    Increase instruction of Native languages and culture for Native American students through development of Indigenous curriculum and rubric.

          Objective:  Gain of 3% as compared to 2008-2009.
